Our Students
For Our Community
Enabling the success of our students, now and long into the future, is at the core of our mission and is the driving force behind this work. It is important to emphasize that no campus closures will happen for two academic years. Throughout this period of change, the University will remain steadfast in our commitment to our students, and their experience and success at Penn State.
- Every student who begins a degree at a closing campus will have the opportunity to complete their degree at Penn State.
- Each impacted student will receive personalized guidance and advising so that they clearly understand degree completion options, timelines, and pathways to other Penn State campuses, including online options through Penn State World Campus. Navigation coaches have begun reaching out to students at campuses slated for closure to answer questions and to connect students with University resources, including support staff and academic and financial advisers.
- Because campuses will not close before the end of spring 2027, all current or admitted students at closing campuses who enroll on a full-time basis and successfully complete course requirements will have the chance to complete associate degree coursework.
- Bachelor’s degree students can continue at the campus where they are enrolled through the 2026-27 academic year. Depending on the number of credits needed, they may be able to complete their degrees at that location or transition to another campus as part of Penn State’s 2+2 Plan. Penn State will work with each student to determine the best pathway for them.
- Penn State will admit student applicants and transfers at all campuses for the fall 2025 semester. The University will not accept student applicants or transfers at those closing campuses for beyond fall 2025.
Student FAQs
Academics and Advising
How will I be supported through this transition?
Navigation coaches have begun reaching out to students at campuses slated for closure to answer questions and to connect students with University resources, including support staff and academic and financial advisers. Students also will receive information about how and where to reach out for assistance when they need it. Each student’s support team will help them create individual academic, financial and graduation plans; guide students through available support options; and assist students in reaching educational objectives.
Where should I direct academic-related questions?
You may connect with an adviser through Starfish. There are two options:
- Drop-in Kiosk: You have access to academic advisers from across the University for general questions and to connect you with the appropriate resources to support you in a more detailed and personal way. To access the drop-in kiosk, log into Starfish to see your My Success Network. Scroll down and select the Academic Advising at Penn State – Drop In tile to join the waiting room to meet with an academic adviser.
- Your assigned adviser: Schedule a meeting with your assigned adviser through Starfish.

Will I be able to complete my Penn State degree?
Every student who begins a degree at a closing campus will have the opportunity to complete their degree at Penn State. Advisers will assist in helping you plan your academic path to graduation. Your path may include finishing your degree at the same campus, transitioning to another campus or completing courses online.
What campus transition options do I have?
If you cannot complete your degree at your current campus, you will have the option of transitioning to another Penn State campus, enrolling in Penn State World Campus, or exploring alternative degree pathways with the help of your academic adviser.
As is the case currently — and continuing for bachelor’s degree students enrolling in fall 2025 — you can complete the first two years of your studies at any Penn State campus as part of the 2+2 Plan before transitioning to another campus to finish your degree.
If you wish to transition from your campus earlier, during your first two years at Penn State, you may change to any Commonwealth Campus but not to University Park unless academic progress cannot be maintained at your current campus.
Will courses necessary for degree completion be available at other Penn State campuses?
Efforts are being made to expand course offerings at continued-investment campuses to provide you with access to the classes you need. Advisers will help you plan your academic path.
Can I transfer from Penn State to another university?
While we hope each and every one of our students continues their academic journey at Penn State, if you wish to transfer to another institution, you will receive transcript and transfer assistance from Penn State.
Will I be able to graduate on time?
Penn State is working to minimize disruptions so that you can stay on track for graduation. Advisers will assist in helping you plan your academic path, including options to transition to another campus or complete courses online.
What do I need to do now?
Navigation coaches have begun reaching out to students at campuses slated for closure to answer questions and to connect students with University resources, including support staff and academic and financial advisers. Please continue to watch your Penn State email for additional information.
I am an first- or second-year student in the Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing (BSN) Program through the Ross and Carol Nese College of Nursing at Penn State Fayette or Penn State Mont Alto. With my campus closing, where will I be able to complete the third and fourth year of the BSN?
Students at Penn State Fayette or Penn State Mont Alto will be able to complete the third and fourth year of their nursing education at or near the campuses where they are currently enrolled. This extended education option in the local area is available only for first- and second-year BSN students due to the specific needs associated with this degree.
- These students will continue to have access to established clinical placements for these campuses.
- Nursing faculty will continue to teach the relevant nursing curriculum at a location in the local area, which will be determined later.
- Student support services (library, tutoring, writing, etc.) will remain available but may be provided virtually through the Ross and Carol Nese College of Nursing.
- Students may complete any remaining required general education courses at another campus or online through the Penn State World Campus.
More information will be shared directly with BSN students as it becomes available. Navigation coaches will be available to assist students during this transition.
If registered with the Disability Services Office at a closing campus, how can I receive academic accommodation at my new campus?
You will continue to be registered after transitioning to another campus. While you will not need to re-register for academic accommodations, you will need to meet with staff in the Disability Services Office at your new campus to continue approved accommodations and discuss any changes to the way accommodations are provided.
- All campuses work closely together and will inform one another if a registered student is transferring.
- When changing campus locations, you will be reassigned to a new disability coordinator in the Disability Services Office at your new campus of enrollment.
- Staff from the Disability Services Office at the new campus will send an introductory message to you via Penn State email.
- When enrolling at a new campus, you are encouraged to contact the Disability Services Office at the new campus immediately to ensure there is no disruption to your accommodations.
- A full list of contact information for all campus Disability Services Offices is available online.
Student Disability Resources has a process in place to support students transferring from one campus to another. During the student’s final semester at their campus, they should begin conversations with their assigned disability coordinator to begin the transfer of their file to the new campus. The student will receive an email from the new disability services office via Penn State email, which will include their next steps to connect with their newly assigned disability coordinator. A full list of contact information for all campus disability services offices is available at: https://equity.psu.edu/offices/student-disability-resources/campus-offices.
Prospective Students
When will my offer of admission and financial aid expire?
We hope you say “yes” to Penn State, but we understand you may need more time. You have much of the summer — well beyond the University Park deadline of May 1 — to accept your offer and pay your deposit without losing your offer of admission or financial aid.
Should I be worried about enrolling at a Commonwealth Campus?
No. Penn State remains dedicated to its mission of serving students across Pennsylvania. Many of our campuses are poised for long-term success with the right strategic investments. Students will continue to receive a high-quality education and access to the full benefits of a Penn State degree, no matter which campus they attend.
I am admitted to a Commonwealth Campus for the fall 2025 semester. Can I submit a request to have my application reconsidered for another Commonwealth Campus?
Yes. Students admitted to a Commonwealth Campus can request to have their application reconsidered for another Commonwealth Campus. Students can submit a Reconsideration Request online through their My Penn State portal.
I am admitted to a Commonwealth Campus for the fall 2025 semester. Can I submit a request to have my application reconsidered for the University Park Campus?
No. Reconsideration Requests for students currently admitted to a Commonwealth Campus for summer/fall 2025 at the University Park Campus will not be considered.
Housing and Campus Life
Will housing be available if transitioning to another campus?
If transitioning to another Penn State campus, you will receive support in securing new housing.
Will student support services continue to be available at closing campuses?
All student support services including counseling, career advising and tutoring, will continue to be available at all campuses and online.
Can I continue to participate in student clubs and organizations?
You are encouraged to get involved in existing organizations if transitioning to continued-investment campuses and/or help to create new, unique ones if they do not currently exist.
Tuition and Financial Aid
Will these closures have any impact on tuition at the remaining Commonwealth Campuses?
No. Tuition for the 2025-26 academic year has already been approved by the Board of Trustees — and there will be no tuition increase for in-state students at any of our Commonwealth Campuses for the third straight year.
Will I still qualify for financial aid?
Federal and state aid will be available at any Penn State campus based on the FAFSA and your individual aid eligibility. Regardless of the campus where you will be enrolled, you will need to complete the FAFSA annually for the applicable year of enrollment. The Financial Aid Office will provide guidance specific to your situation and counselors will be available to answer questions and discuss individual circumstances.
Will I still receive my Penn State-issued scholarship?
Institutional aid, unless specifically prohibited by donor guidelines, will transition to the new Commonwealth Campus of enrollment based on your individual eligibility, any fund renewal criteria, and fund availability. In cases where students are transitioning to other locations, your financial aid situation will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
How will my work-study job be affected?
Work-study eligibility is determined annually by completing the FAFSA and is applicable at any campus. Campuses will be notified of your eligibility for work-study and provide a listing of available opportunities.
Will the University provide support if I transition from a closing campus, where tuition and fees are lower, to a continued-investment campus, where tuition and fees are higher?
If currently enrolled in a four-year degree program at a campus identified for closure, you will receive a grant for any difference in tuition and fees at your new Commonwealth Campus. The grant will be good for up to three years, or until graduation, whichever occurs sooner. To receive grant funding, you must meet the following eligibility requirements:
- Be enrolled in and planning to complete a four-year degree program offered at a campus identified for closure.
- Have completed at least 60 credits at the time the campus is set for closure.
- Maintain continuous enrollment.
- Be in good academic standing.
- Have a degree completion plan on file.
The grant amount will be based on 2026-27 tuition and fee rates and will remain a static award. This does not apply when transitioning from a Commonwealth Campus to University Park or World Campus.
Who can answer additional questions related to financial aid?
Your Navigation Coach will help you access the resources available to you and your financial aid counselors can provide answers about your specific situation. You can contact financial aid representatives and schedule an appointment online.
Athletics
I am a student-athlete at a closing campus. How can I learn more?
Intercollegiate athletics will continue to operate through the campus closure. Every effort will be made to maintain competitive schedules and full seasons for teams through the 2026-27 academic year. In-depth information for our students, including answers to frequently asked questions and contact information for further questions, can be found on the PSUAC website.
Students supported by Office of Veterans Programs
What do I need to do if using VA education benefits?
If you are planning to complete your program at your current campus prior to closure, there will be no impact on benefits. If you are unable to complete your program at your current campus, you should reach out to your academic adviser to develop an updated path to completion for your program. After meeting with your adviser, contact the Office of Veterans Programs to review any potential impact to your education benefits.
I am a VA work-study student at a closing campus, can I work at a different campus?
Please reach out to the school certifying official at your new campus to discuss VA work-study options. Not all campuses offer VA work study and/or they may have limited openings.
How will a transition to a new campus impact my benefit that pays a housing stipend?
Housing allowance is determined based upon course location and/or residential vs. distance-learning enrollment. Once you have met with your academic adviser to determine your options, please contact the Office of Veterans Programs to discuss the potential impact.
